2021 finishes with a bang for NLC girls

20 Dec 2021 by Rob Jowett

On 19 December, the Norbury under 13s and 15s played their final matches of the season against Mellor and Stockport respectively.

The under 13s were first up, and with 11 players (one sub) recorded a 25-3 win against a full strength Mellor. During the second half, the team started to make the ball do the work, and really started to see the put drills taught in training in to practice on the pitch.

The under 15s played second, and due to us missing players because of illness, we played 9v9. Norbury had a single sub, but Stockport had 4. Even despite 7 players having played during the morning, the Norbury girls were able to record a 25-17 victory.

2021 has been an interesting year for lacrosse (and all sports). We started the year with strict 15 person bubbles, and were able to play a number of friendlies in the run up to the summer break.
In September we were straight in to things with a development tournament at Moreton Hall for the under 15s, and then the under 13s won the inaugural Summer 6s tournament at Stockport Lacrosse club.
So far this season we have recorded 2 losses across all of the teams (1 for the under 11s against Heaton Mersey, and 1 for the under 15s against Timperley). All 3 girls we sent to trial for Metros were accepted on to the program, and join the 3 Norbury girls who were accepted last season. We have a total of 11 girls on the Cheshire under 15s squad, which is more a quarter of the available places. We even had 2 of our under 15s selected for Cheshire under 18s.

Of course none of these achievements would have been possible without the coaches, umpires, grounds keeper and managers who volunteer their time and expertise. Thank you to you all. I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and a fabulous new year. Keep safe everyone, and I look forward to seeing everyone back at training, and in matches in January.
